STRENGHTHENING OF THE ROSE-WINDOW OF TROIA CATHEDRAL
The rose-window has been seismically strengthened through a steel restraint system made of a perimeter ring and a set of radial elements at both sides of the columns, and following the path of the arched ribworks.
The rose-window is linked to the radial elements by means of plastic ribbons with high strength, resistant to atmospheric agents, to UV rays, and easily replaceable within the framework of programmed maintenance.
This system enabled us to remove the unsightly steel ties, and is totally reversible.
STRENGHTHENING OF THE PIERS OF TRICARICO CATHEDRAL
Visual inspection and diagnostic investigation highlighted an incipient compressive collapse of the piers of the nave, due to constructive defects, seismic damage and past interventions.
The intervention, carried out in emergency conditions, consisted of confining the piers – with cruciform cross-section – by means of post-tensioned “hoops”, able to prevent the instability of the pilaster strips.
The intervention is completed by remaking the cladding and the decoration.
